Who was he?
He was an explorer. He found the New York Harbor.

Where was he from?
He was from Italy,but he was sent to explore by the King of France.

What was he doing?
He was looking for a route to the pacific but landed in North Carolina and continued north to N.Y.

Who sent him?why?
He was sent by King Francis I of France to explore the east coast of North America for a route to the pacific.

What were his accomplishments?
He discovered the New York Harbor. He has a bridge named after him. It is called Verrazzano Bridge, it connects Brooklyn and Staten Island.

1. He was born in 1485.

2. He received an exceptional education in Florence and was excellent in Math.

3. He had 14 children!

4. He was killed and eaten by native Carib people in 1528.

5. He called himself "Jehan de Verrazzano."





Jacques Cartier

Who was he?
He was a french explorer who claimed Canada for France.

Where was he from?
Jacques Cartier was from France.

What was he doing?
On April 20, 1534 he set sail under a commission from the king hoping to discover a western  passage to the wealthy markets of Asia.


Who sent  him? Why ?
  The King  of  France, King Francis I, told  Jacques Cartier to go to Asia to find new  riches.

What were his accomplishments?
He discovered gold and diamonds and claimed Canada for France.

1. He was born on December 31, 1491. 
He has the same birthday as Bryan & Lorena...December 31!

2. He died on September 1, 1557 in St. Malo, France.

3. His parents names were Jamet (James) Cartier and Gesseline Jansart.

4. He was married at 26 and had no kids. 

5. Before he left Canada, he kidnapped 2 children from the Iroquois to show them off in France.

Samuel de Champlain

Who was he ?    
He was an explorer.

 Where was he from?
He was from France.

What was he doing?
He was exploring Canada, and he was the geographer on the expedition from France to Canada.

Who sent him? Why?
Aymar de Clermont de Chaste, who was the Vice-Admiral of France under King Henry III, sent Samuel to explore. He joined Francis Grave Du Pont's expedition in Canada, to claim land for France, in 1603.

What were his accomplishments?
He found a lake, which was named after him (Lake Champlain) in 1609. He also founded Quebec City.

1. Samuel was only a child.

2.His father was a captain and he was a cabin boy.
3. His teacher was a priest.

4. His lake, Lake Champlain, is also kind of a river that borders Virginia and Washington D.C.

5. He didn't have any  children.       
                                                          
6. He explored Quebec and he was searching  for a passage to the Indies.

7.He made friends with the Algonquin Native Indians and he helped them fight the Iroquois.

Who was he?
Henry Hudson was an explorer trying to find a short cut to Asia through the north East passage.

Where was he from?
Henry Hudson was from England.

What was he doing?
He was trying to find a short cut to Asia and India.

Who sent him and why?
The Dutch East india company,in the Netherlands,sent him to find a quicker route to Asia through the Northeast passage.

What were his accomplishments?
Henry Hudson was known for sailing the Hudson river.

1. Henry Hudson was born 1566
2. In 1607, the Muscovy Company of the kingdom of England hired Hudson to find a northerly route to the pacific coat of Asia.



3. The name of the boat Henry Hudson sailed is Halve Maen, 
which means Half Moon.


4. In 1607 and 1608 Hudson had two failed voyages.

5. Hudson's men mutinied him, his son and five other men. They were no where to be found and no one knows how he died.
